Hands-on fundraising pros helping nonprofits thrive

Abeja is a women-owned, small business that helps nonprofits nationwide master direct mail fundraising. We specialize in delivering a complete solution to donor mail. That frees up our clients’ time for higher-level tasks (Why hello, major donors!) and ensures their appeals make money (to change more lives).

Our Story

Co-owners Brianna Klink and Laura Ingalls met at a large nonprofit in Phoenix. There, we planned and executed high-performing donor communications and trained thousands of nonprofit affiliates across the U.S. and Canada.

These smaller organizations struggled to consistently ask, thank, and report impact back to donors, especially in the channel most donors prefer: mail. With friends, we founded Abeja in 2014, and developed a software product to automate the donation letter process. It was a big flop!

Turns out, nonprofits wanted a relationship … with us. They valued our mail expertise, writing chops, attention to detail, and drive to get the best deal. And because we’re softies at heart, we actually believe in making the world a better place. So we’re doing it — by helping fundraisers connect more deeply with donors.

In 2018, our tech product won the first Founders Live pitch event in Phoenix. But when it failed in market, we learned humility and what our nonprofit clients really need to succeed.
